BYD Unveils 1579bhp Denza Z Electric Supercar

Denza, the premium brand from the BYD group, has unveiled its new electric sports car, the Z, at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Z comes in three variants: a coupe, a Spider convertible, and a hardcore Racing model, all with extreme power outputs.

The Z is the second car to be officially unveiled by Denza for Europe, following the Z9 GT. More models will follow, including the Denza BAO 5 4×4 and a luxury MPV, the D9.

According to Denza’s head of product, Daniel Cabanillas Barea, the brand fits into the BYD group with a three-layer approach: BYD as an accessible brand, Denza in the middle of the premium segment, and Yangwang as a luxury brand. Denza is mainly differentiated from BYD by design and technology.

Barea notes that Denza aims to bring new technology that can be incorporated into the wider group. The E3 platform underneath the Z is an example of this, and it’s also used in the Z9 GT.

The Z’s design is reminiscent of several high-end sports cars, including the Lotus Emira and the McLaren 750S. The conventional coupe has a sporty look without being too aggressive, with hidden design elements like a deployable wing and a glowing rear badge.

The Racing model has a more extreme design, with a carbonfibre front splitter, increased venting, and a large rear wing that can be adjusted to three different angles. Denza claims this results in a 50% improvement in e-motor cooling efficiency and a 32% improvement in brake cooling.

Inside, the focus is on the driver, with a complicated steering wheel featuring buttons, paddles, and toggles. The interior also includes a fridge in the centre console, a unique feature for a supercar.

All three Z models have the same power output: 1579bhp and 929lb ft, generated from a three-motor powertrain setup and a 76kWh second-generation BYD blade battery. The coupe sprints to 62mph in 2.25 seconds.

Denza says the Z will be available to order in Europe later in summer 2026, with prices starting from £142,900 for the coupe.

They are positioning the Z as a competitor in the premium electric sports car market.

With its unique design, advanced technology, and high-performance capabilities, the Denza Z is certainly a car to watch in the coming months.
