Dawsongroup has signed a binding agreement to acquire Dan Ryan Truck Rental, one of Ireland’s longest‑running commercial truck and van rental firms.

The acquisition will keep Dan Ryan’s brand intact, with the company operating as a separate entity inside Dawsongroup. Malcolm Wilson, chief executive of Dawsongroup, said the purchase adds “a high quality and well‑established platform in Ireland” and helps the group “enter several new market areas.” He added that Dawsongroup looks forward to “supporting the business as it continues to grow.”
Wayne Boylan, managing director of Dan Ryan, described the transaction as “an exciting milestone.” He noted that early meetings with Dawsongroup revealed shared values and a common long‑term vision. The managing director emphasized that both firms are “built on strong family foundations,” and that the cultural fit made the deal feel “like a natural fit from the outset.”
Joining Dawsongroup will provide “the scale, expertise and investment to support the next stage of our growth while preserving the values and identity that have shaped the business.” Customers will keep dealing with the same experienced team, while gaining access to “additional resources, expertise and broader range of assets and solutions” the larger group brings.

Strategic context for Dawsongroup
Dawsongroup is among Europe’s leading business‑to‑business asset rental, leasing and contract‑hire groups, active in 11 countries. Its portfolio holds more than 32,000 assets, including trucks, trailers, vans, buses, coaches, material‑handling equipment, sweepers, refuse‑collection vehicles, gully gear and temperature‑controlled solutions.
Last year, investment firm KKR bought Dawsongroup for an undisclosed sum, stating its aim to back the company’s “ambitious growth strategy.” The Irish acquisition aligns with that plan, extending Dawsongroup’s reach into new geographic and product segments.
While the fleet sector is seeing rapid adoption of electric vehicles, vans still pose challenges because of charging infrastructure and battery size. This broader market shift may influence future offerings, as the group already tracks developments such as rapid‑charging networks and vehicle‑to‑everything technology.
For now, Dan Ryan customers will continue to receive services from the familiar team, now backed by the larger Dawsongroup network.
