Australia will welcome the Lexus TZ, a three-row battery-electric SUV, in 2027, putting an end to speculation about the brand’s first seven-seat electric offering.

Public debut at Melbourne Cup Carnival

The vehicle will make its first local appearance at this year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival, displayed alongside the limited-edition RZ 600e F Sport Performance in the Landmark by Lexus pavilion at Flemington’s Birdcage Enclosure.

The global unveiling of the TZ in May revealed its dimensions, powertrain and range, but stopped short of confirming availability in Australia until this announcement.

Dimensions, interior and performance

Measuring 5,100 mm long, 1,990 mm wide and 1,705 mm high, the SUV sits on a 3,050 mm wheelbase and offers seven seats across three rows.

Developed around a “Driving Lounge” concept, the cabin aims to combine passenger comfort, interior flexibility and quietness with the brand’s expected driving characteristics.

Luggage capacity varies from 290 L with all seats occupied to 2,017 L when the rear row is folded, allowing owners to adapt space to different needs.

A dual-motor all-wheel-drive system delivers a combined output of 300 kW, with each motor rated at 167 kW and 268 Nm of torque.

The configuration yields a 0-100 km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds, while a 95.8 kWh battery pack provides an estimated WLTP combined range of about 530 km.

Charging from 10% to 80% takes roughly 35 minutes when connected to a 150 kW DC fast charger.

Weight is approximately 2,630 kg, and alloy wheels range from 20-inch to 22-inch depending on specification.

Australian pricing, model grades and final equipment levels have not yet been disclosed; the brand plans to release further details closer to the vehicle’s introduction next year.

Jack Hobbs, chief executive of the Australian operation, said the model, together with the expanding range of battery-electric vehicles, demonstrates the brand’s commitment to broadening its electrified portfolio.

He added, “At Lexus, innovation is never pursued for its own sake. Every new model must deepen the connection between driver, passengers, and the road ahead.”

While the electric SUV segment in Australia is becoming crowded, it offers a family-focused alternative to five-seat models, potentially attracting buyers who need extra space without sacrificing luxury.

Competitors include the Kia EV9, Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Volvo EX90, all of which already occupy the three-row electric SUV niche.

Also on display at Flemington will be the RZ 600e F Sport Performance, a limited-edition version of the electric RZ SUV featuring revised suspension, aerodynamic enhancements and steer-by-wire technology; only nine units are allocated to Australia for delivery later this year.

Both vehicles will be showcased at the carnival ahead of their respective market launches, giving prospective buyers an early look at the brand’s upcoming electric offerings.

Lexus Highlights Dual Electrification Strategy

The all-new TZ and RZ 600e F Sport Performance illustrate Lexus’ dual approach to electrification. One model expands luxury through space and versatility, while the other emphasizes thrilling performance. Together they mark a new beginning for the brand.
