Often in a post-colonial context, the rising recognition and use of indigenous education strategies could be a response to the erosion and loss of indigenous information and language through the processes of colonialism. Furthermore, it could allow indigenous communities to “reclaim and revalue their languages and cultures, and in so doing, enhance the academic success of indigenous college students.” Numerous definitions of education have been instructed by theorists belonging to diverse fields. Many agree that education is a purposeful activity directed at achieving certain goals, particularly the transmission of knowledge. But they typically include different goals as well, similar to fostering abilities and character traits.
