Genesis has unveiled its flagship luxury electric SUV, the GV90, marking a transition for the Hyundai Motor Group brand into the ultra-premium vehicle market. Based on the eMP platform, the model is designed to compete with high-end offerings from established luxury marques. The vehicle incorporates a high-strength aluminum frame and advanced safety features, including the world’s first roof airbag designed to prevent occupant ejection during rollovers.
The GV90 will be available in two primary configurations: the standard model with traditional hinged doors and the Neolun trim. The latter features the Neolun Arch Gate, which utilizes coach doors and removes the traditional B-pillar to create an unobstructed entry point. To compensate for the structural change, engineers reinforced the cabin with a concealed roll cage using steel 1.5 times thicker than that found in conventional vehicles.
This pillar-less design requires a departure from standard vehicle entry habits, prioritizing ease of access over the traditional frame. Such a configuration suggests that the interior experience serves as a primary selling point, aiming to position the vehicle as a mobile lounge rather than just a transportation tool. The success of this design depends on how effectively the manufacturer manages long-term door hinge wear and the acoustic sealing of such a large, non-traditional opening.
The vehicle is powered by a massive battery, the largest ever installed in a Hyundai electric vehicle. It supports fast charging that can replenish the energy store from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes. The dual-motor system provides a combined output of 657 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. According to internal testing, the estimated range for the SUV is 310 miles.

The powertrain management includes a dual electronic limited-slip differential on both the front and rear motors. They distribute torque based on road conditions, aiming to improve stability on uneven surfaces or during high-speed cornering. Additionally, the GV90 features active rear-wheel steering, which turns the wheels up to five degrees to improve maneuverability in tight spaces.
Inside, the cabin focuses on reducing noise through the use of acoustic glass and high-expansion soundproofing fillers injected into the main frame. A Comfort Partition separates the second-row seating from the cargo area to dampen luggage-related noise. The dashboard features a wide OLED display that can extend to 24.6 inches when the vehicle is parked for media consumption.
The infotainment system runs on the Android Automotive Operating System and includes a generative AI assistant known as Gleo AI. The Neolun First Edition trim offers a 4-seat configuration with 24-inch wheels that match the exterior paint. As of the announcement, the manufacturer has not provided a release date or official pricing for the GV90.
