The Denza Z, an electric supercar from BYD’s premium brand, made its debut at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. It launched in three variants: a coupe, a Spider convertible, and a track-focused Racing model. All versions share a tri-motor powertrain producing 1,579bhp and 929lb ft of torque, paired with a 76kWh second-generation BYD blade battery.
The Z’s design blends supercar cues with hidden tech
Wolfgang Egger, who previously worked at Audi and Lamborghini, led the styling. The design nods to the Lotus Emira, McLaren 750S, and Maserati MCPura. The coupe’s taillights resemble those of the Bentley Continental GT, while a hidden rear wing deploys at speed. The Racing variant adds a carbon-fiber splitter, extra vents, and a large adjustable rear wing, improving e-motor cooling by 50% and brake cooling by 32%.
The interior emphasizes driver focus. A complex steering wheel includes multiple buttons and paddles. A built-in fridge in the center console stands out as a first for a supercar. Rear seats fold flat, though they work best for children or luggage.
Performance specs push the limits of electric power
The coupe accelerates from 0-62mph in 2.25 seconds, reaches a top speed of 186mph, and offers a 257-mile range.

Denza’s arrival in Europe signals a shift for the brand, which has primarily operated in China. It positions itself between BYD’s mass-market offerings and Yangwang’s luxury models, targeting premium buyers without entering ultra-luxury territory. The emphasis on design and technology, rather than opulence, distinguishes it from rivals like Mercedes-AMG or Audi Sport.
Pricing and availability for European buyers
Orders begin in late summer 2026, with deliveries starting by year’s end. The coupe starts at £142,900. Additional models, including the BAO 5 4×4 and the D9 luxury MPV, are planned.
Daniel Cabanillas Barea, Denza’s head of product, stated the Z demonstrates technology that may appear in other BYD vehicles. The E3 platform supporting the Z will underpin future models, reinforcing the brand’s role as an innovation hub within the group. Drivers handling unpredictable road conditions may find the Z’s advanced suspension particularly useful.
